State broker convention raises cash for charity

The Council of Queensland Insurance Brokers held its annual convention at Sanctuary Cove Resort, Hope Island, from August 15-16.

The convention featured educational sessions and speakers including representatives from Allianz, Vero, Berkley Insurance Australia, NTI, McCabes Lawyers and Arteva Funding.

Vero sponsored the opening-night dinner where attendees relaxed with a land, sea and garden buffet incorporating the best produce of the local area. An after-party sponsored by Delta Insurance closed the first day of the convention.

The association raised $21,000 via a charity auction and raffle, and the proceeds will support general manager David Duncalfe’s ShitBox Rally fundraising. Mr Duncalfe and his friend, Jason Smith, will drive across regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland in a Toyota Camry in October to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

APIG’s conference a ‘huge success’

The Australasian Professional Indemnity Group National Conference and Gala Dinner has been hailed a “huge success” by organisers.

The event was held in September at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, and 300 people attended the conference, while the gala dinner attracted 500.

Keynote speakers Pip Marlow and Allan Sparkes were joined by a line-up of experts covering topics including Leading in the Era of AI, ASIC’s ESG and Greenwashing, and the Australian Cyber Insurance Market.

PSC Network conference travels to Japan

More than 250 authorised representatives, staff and sponsors attended the PSC Network Conference in August at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo.

The three-day event, also attended by New Zealand member brokers this year, was supported by 38 insurer, agency and supplier partners, which participated in the bustling marketplace and networking functions.

The event’s theme was Future Fusion, merging tech and tradition for broking success.

Awards were presented to ARs that excelled from a financial, compliance and cultural perspective, and for standout service to clients.

McLardy McShane conference celebrates Olympics

More than 360 McLardy McShane network members attended the group’s annual conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre in August.

The three-day event had an Olympics theme, including an opening presentation in which gold medallist Cathy Freeman and three-time silver medallist Raelene Boyle lit a replica Olympic cauldron.

The pair were also guest speakers, alongside Steadfast Australasian networks EGM Nick Cook and Thomas Foods International MD Darren Thomas.

A record $340,250 was raised for the company’s charity and non-profit partners: FightMND, Reach, Cure EB, Love Your Sister and House of Darwin Foundation.

Record numbers attend CBN conference

A record 370 brokers and industry partners attended CBN’s Shine conference held in Auckland in September.

It was the first overseas conference for the Steadfast-owned network, and focused on the pillars of growth, compliance and community.

Speakers included CBN chief executive Richard Crawford, SafetyCulture founder Luke Anear, ANZIIF chief executive Katrina Shanks, Steadfast chief executive Robert Kelly, and NIBA chief executive Richard Klipin.

A gala dinner was held at the Auckland War Museum, and $111,000 was raised for domestic violence charity Shine NZ. Next year’s CBN conference will be held in Canberra.
